Ice with a history

Unlike Dutch ice, ice in Sweden is present for months. In these months it will change. the picture shows an ice floor consisting of separate layers. Interestingly the layers are perpendicular to the ice floor itself. During the early winter wind and waves have broken up the ice sheet after whihc the wind forced the shards into a corner. After this a thaw period has melted the sharp edges sticking out and created a smooth ice sheet after freezing again. My skate is visible on the left side of the picture, giving an idea about the thickness of the layers.
